This is a great tool to help guide you in gathering the information you may need to build a family tree and do additional genealogical research. If you are starting out I recommend you use this form to document your research. When you are ready to go online you will have the information at your fingertips! The form is set up so if you just want to capture the basic information you can just print the first page and use it. This form is designed to print in landscape orientation. The download link is below the form.
Download the form
- Scroll down until you see the embedded “Free Individual Research Form.”
- Just below the embed, click the “Download” link (not the form title).
- When prompted by your browser, choose “Save” or “Save File,” then pick a folder on your computer (for example, Downloads or Documents) and confirm.
Open the downloaded PDF
- Open the folder where your browser saved the file “Free-Individual-Research-Form.pdf.”
- Double-click the file to open it in your default PDF viewer (such as Adobe Reader, Preview on Mac, or your browser’s PDF viewer).
Print in landscape orientation
- In the PDF viewer, click “File” then “Print” (or press Ctrl+P on Windows / Cmd+P on Mac).
- In the Print dialog, find the Orientation setting and select “Landscape” (this matches how the form was designed to print).
- Make sure “Fit” or “Shrink to printable area” is selected so the entire form fits on the page.
- Choose which pages to print (for basic information, you may print only page 1) and select your printer.
- Click “Print” to print the form.
